Who knew that America would fall prey to concerted propaganda attacks splitting our country into a world with facts and so-called "alternative" ones? Whatever the outcome of current political battles, our country has been harmed, perhaps irreparably, by propaganda and self-reinforcing information silos. Trust in government and traditional sources of information has been undermined—the result, at least in part, of an ongoing stream of misinformation and propaganda, some of it created by a foreign government.
In our confusion, we might find ourselves asking questions unthinkable a year or so ago, like "How can you tell propaganda from information?" And even, "Is there really any such thing as truth in the realm of politics?"
This blog is dedicated to the idea that we Americans can respect facts, use our reason, and respect other points of view. As in every domain of the human spirit, little is actually black and white in an individual's politics. Our views tend naturally to be complex and nuanced. It is today's bleak political climate, clouded by demagoguery and propaganda, that is pushing us further and further toward the extremes.
